Gone is the time when after a major religious blunder, will not name only Ayodya as many followed, the state says, it didn't acted as it was ignorant of ground situation. Now in the midst of guzzling questions and array of microphones, its difficult to hide behind 'ignorance'. But still the hard fact is some established media channels are again getting cosy as Doordarshan was once. One-on-one interviews, cosy talks, mudslinging politicians being getting their byte, and others such reminds me of a journalism that is 'comfortable' not 'investigative'. Why do Barkha Dutt is shy to ask some hard questions to Suresh kalmadi, the CWG's corruption personified. Why take the answers of this man on face value? If you question about treadmills that were rented for inflated prices, say clearly that "Mr Kalmadi, you are wrong. These are facts with me and you failed as OC Chairperson." And see this, Sagarika Ghosh says 'right' when a separatist shows its overzealous fantasies to break apart the country in a national talk show. Astonishingly, she didn't find anything wrong in Joel Stein's schoolboyish comments without investigation or knowledge about Hinduism.
Thanks that they are not editors, or else we will just get elitist columns written from well furnished study rooms rather from ground zero. Please say a spade a spade journalists.

Attack On Democracy
On Friday, 3 rd September, there were two brazen attacks on Indian democracy.
Before noon one of the four policemen captured by Maoists, who are demading release of eight comrades in return, Assistant sub Inspector Lucas Tete was found mudered by Maoists Terrorists. The second was coincedently by CPI(M) carders on Journalists who wanted to report about the armed camps existing West Bengal. These armed men with rds, bamboo sticks and ammunition attacked press black and blue and dragged them out of their place.
Now the question is where are the Sympathisers of Maoists who claim them Human Rights Activists? Does Lucas Tete had human rights?
And where are the Democratic Communists, Mr Prakash Karat, who tried to drag a government to fall to save democracy at the hands of capitalists in Indo-Us nuclear Deal?

Commonwealth Games and Media
It was less than 24 hours from the Times Now Expose of UK allegedly dubious Money Trail of Commonwealth Games according to media reports, that Barkha Dutt did an exclusive interview with the person center to the controversy- Mr Suresh Kalmadi. In this interview he cleared the air over many questions that "Times Now" raised.
But one wonders why did he went to NDTV to answers raised by Times Now Investigation? Why did Kalmadi didn't spoke to the channel that has all the documents about AM Films? And the bigger question is why Barkha Dutt took Kalmadi's answers on face value and without even investing about Mr Sebastian , a protocol officer at Indiuan high Commission in London who recommended AM Films to Kalmadi, and did a all-is-well interview?
Why NDTV is not showing the documents that shows the diffrence of words between OC and Indian High Commission , London? And are the accused tyaking shelter behind Media Rivalry?
These are some of the uncomfortable tough questions that Kalmadi and the media channels getting his "Exclusive" interview will find tough to answer.

Aman Kacroo: how his killers got bail?
The recent bail given to the "Killers of Aman Kachroo" in the high profile case brought out the can of worms that exist in the Criminal Procedure Code of India.
Judge Purinder Vaidya on Saturday granted bail to Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma, who were charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, on bond of Rs 50,000. Thre reason he said, "the statements of the witnesses have been recorded and material evidence taken into account, the accused were given bail".
But the question is if the court has recorded all the evidence and the case is in a fast track court, why did the judge didn't gave the judgement?
The unwritten law process says if the case is delayed beyond 15 months then the judge has to grant bail- a reasonable ploy that is used by defence advocates to get bail for their client.
Aman Kachroo is a first year MBBS student at Rajindra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda (Kangra), was allegedly thrsahed by his seniors and he subsequently died on March 8, 2009. In reaction to it he state government not only ordered a magisterial inquiry into the cause of Aman's death but also passed the Anti Ragging Act, providing for stringent punishment in such cases.
However, what if after 15 months the accused get bail in a simple case of culpable homicide.
Post script- The landmark move was initiated by Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-cheif, Times Now, in Newshour, where he coerced Aman Father to fight the case rather than let the state to do it. In the same show Dusyant Dave, the eminent High Court Lawyer volunteered to fight the case for FREE. A landmark acievement in a country where cases languish in courts for ages.

"Justice is NOT done!"
15000+ dead and 10000+ still suffering. The punishment - Rs 25000 and 20 minutes of legal proceeding. And still while coming out after pronouncing the Verdict on Bhopal Gas Tragedy that took 26 years, The Judge said, "Justice is done!" on record to an electronuic media channel. Is this the judiciary of the largest democracy of the world that is so Cold Blooded that it cannot hear the people who suffered for nothing and didnt permit them to even visit the court room. How is justice done when there is not even a day's puunishment. And then also the media cannot voice its angst against it because it will attract Contempt of Court upon them.
Shame ! Utter Shame! Does the Judge has no emotion. Or is it waiting for the judiciary to be questioned, please now, atleast, for this and many verdicts that it pronounced.
It may be said that the case was not investigated properly by investigating agencies. But why cant the judge question the investigating agencies seeing the widescale deaths due to negligence that occured. He isnt just to speak the verdict keeping all parameters put in front of him like a computer. Its the verdict about life and death.
Sir- and this goes straight to all the judges including him- We, the pieople of India look forward to you as your judgement will decide the path of many lives, why cant you walk the extra mile in sensitive cases like this. Everybody , including you knows that its JUSTICE DELAYED DENIED. So didnt you rejected the bail application and kept them in detention till the investigating agencuies came with truth- a watertight case against trhe UCIL.
Common if a media agency can find in three days that to save money security of citizens of Bhopal were jeopardised, How can the CBI can't. Be the torch bearer or a day you will be in teh same platform where the politicians are today.

Melancholy!
Its not a commentary upon intenational affairs, its a story.
Once upon a time there was a small child Sonu. He was an orphan but was duly talen care by his guardians. He was very happy.
When he entered school, he was eschewed and many times shooed away. Then a time arised when he came out of the well and tried to prove himself. He grew.
But somebody was unhappy. In the garbof happieness came an encroachment. To dampen his sweet smile and build a home on it. To make the person as she was .. and then ask whgy are you like that?
When he tried to come out of her thought canopy and built a better life for both... let evrybody free... but no! She will not. She will subdue , cry to pain the other one and them slit the throat with the hands of the same person.
Its called harakiri in Japan but everybody knows it's murder... but nobody can prove it anywhere lest here.

What should one write...
Writing is a Hindustani thal - an amalgamation of everything. And the thal also differs according to the person and time as somebody wants to read for pleasure and some for trhought provoking answers. But dont you think reader is the public in a democracy who is ignorant of the world affairs as a man of lanuage is of Aeronautical engineering.
Lets write something with content, be it serious or full of satire but with content. A Content that moves people and asks them to think , be it for a minute or two but think . Oh! Have i made you ponder a bit?

How the English PROVED us that they are FIT TO GOVERN
History is always boring? No, sometimes when other subjects get related to it it becomes interesting. For example when Literature and Economics gets connected to something like history , then the whole solution becomes indespensible.
I always wonder how can a small country- Britain, smaller than the broken parts of India can capture and dictate terma to a enormous cultural garden like our country? Then yesterday i interviewed a couple of Japanese citizens.
I greeted them. They replied with a nod . I asked do they understand english, they affiemed. I asked their motive. They answered. At last i said, "i will take just one minute of yours" and asked a question. They answered in a minute and when i asked them to elaborate they said, you minute ended.
This reminded me of an interview of a British Lady i took. Stella Porter, that's her name, when met and my editor said that i was very excited to meet her , she hugged me. That did the magic. She talked shared her views . Manytimes she also said that will not sound good to me . But i listened . Today she is connected with me through email.
When i analysed both the interviews it was public relation that connected me with Stella and i got disgusted with the Japanese duo. Although Stella said many things that were not pleasant and which the Japanese didnt, I still will welcome Stella. May be i am wrong, but i think i am true. That's Democracy.

Interesting? Break it!
It is said that what Cabinet doesnt knows Tea Vendors do. The reason i came to know today.
Everyday when i and my team have tea after a long day of news it was pretty relaxing. Since few days our Bureau Chief is joining us in this exercise anbd today we had a discussion on Journalism and its Pay Package.
It was astonishing that apart from flaunting their family's good pay and their comparatively less ones, they still want to continue with it and make a career out of it. Although they, in personal minutes, say that now the time has come for a nine to five job.
NO, i am not writing Confused Journalism 2.0. But it is a paradox of every journalist.
To live a life of Dignity with less money working day and night, and asked to expect less... is a life a journalist .
Dio you know when Rajdeep was in NDTV in Managing Editor post, he got 15 lakh per annum . And with due respect, the students that came out of IIM Ahemdabad bagged 1 Crore per annum. Isnt it hypocricy?

Confused Journalism
Isnt it a wrong word to use for a journalist- CONFUSED. The role of many journalists worldwide is of only to disseminate news. Just give the plain fact to the audience. And that fact also should not clash with the company's liabilities. One should not be judgemental. Not be biased. Just describe and narrate , no conclusion. So the question is why should somebody be a graduate or a post-graduate? Ask a Class 10 student who knows the language nicely to describe and narrate and it will do it. We study because the public want the truth , to know the inside story, not just report.
General public trust you . Apply your brain and bring out how a particular news effects people. What are their liabilities and what are their problems. How the world moves. How a particular idea effects a generation? What is money transaction? What is politics? How does a tiger running in Bangalore can create havoc in Buffalow, New York? Lets analyse news- at least in print as we have only 'why' and 'how' of the 5W's and 1 H. Save somebody listen!

Women reservation Bill passed
Hats Off Sonia!
With all the cacaphoy that the Women's reservation Bill went through on the 100th International Women's Day it was a slap on the cheek of all the undemocratic elements as Sonia-Manmohan Duo led to pass the Bill on a day after.
The Yadav Trio were quite determined that they were not going to let it pass on the next day. It was a paradox as only 10 members can jeopardise a Bill concerning 100 million persons. They snached, they tore, and shouted but it was a woman that DID IT.
